Get Ready to Decorate!

PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR 2016

Every year, smarter decorators then I await eagerly the announcement by Pantone of their "Color of the Year". With home decor palettes firmly based in neutral paint and upholstery selections, trend setters gleefully scope isles for toss pillows, art and other small decor items to keep their home on point and in trend. Last year even I found myself guilty of buying "Marsala" pillows to stage a home, but this year the Pantone announcement came with a big TWIST! Not ONE Color of the Year but rather a hybrid was announced, a blending of TWO: Meet Rose Quartz and Serenity. Yes, Pantone is bringing shades of pink and blue out of the nursery and into the living room, into the kitchen, not to mention to your sweaters, make up and shoes. As for me, when I see these colors I am reminded of a beautiful sunset. Pantone speaks to the philosophy behind their decision sharing "Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace." I like the concept, but I do expect unless you are among the afire mentioned neutral savvy, that these colors in combination may prove a challenge for many to work into their existing home color palette this year. A long search of interior design websites and Pinterest boards found these colors primarily used sparingly as accents, and often featuring one or the other versus used in combination. Which, defeats the Pantone purpose. Love it or hate it one thing is certain, get ready to see a lot of these colors in 2016. Want to brew your coffee in trend? The Keurig brand coffee maker will be available in "Serenity" soon.
